the stylist's toolkit
The first year builds the vocabulary and the eye — then learns to use them. We study colour theory and its techniques: from the colour wheel to colour blocking, from temperature to how colour controls the message. We learn styling techniques: mix-print, layering, proportion, accessorising, and how to make a garment feel new without changing it. We explore the styles around us — street style, subcultures, editorial, social media — and learn to read and name them. We also cover the history of contemporary fashion: the trends, movements, and iconic figures of every decade from the 20th century to today, so we understand where the image of our time comes from. Body types, style developing, image making, and the terminology of the industry complete the toolkit.
